Do I need a reservation for the ferry?
No, neither the North or South ferry take reservations. Both ferries depart every 10-20 minutes all day long. Just drive up, and onto the next available ferry.
Can I pay with a credit card?
The answer is NO on the North Ferry. Both The North and South ferry take only cash when purchasing a ticket on the ferry. The south ferry lets you purchase a ticket online (Here) using a credit card, which you can do before the person comes to sell you a ticket, then you can show it to them on your phone. This would technically be purchasing a ticket on the ferry with a credit card.
How do I get from the South Ferry to the North Ferry?
The road that you exit the ferry onto is South Ferry Rd. (114), follow that until you reach North Ferry Rd.
How long does it take to drive across Shelter Island?
During the winter it takes about 20minutes to get across Shelter Island and most likely there will not be a long line for the ferry on the other side. During the summer or on a holiday weekend it can take longer
